Pourquoi j'ai choisi la lessive naturelle : une solution qui séduit de plus en plus - Simplethings

Why I chose natural detergent: a solution that is increasingly attractive

The quest for a gentle alternative for sensitive and atopic skin You might be wondering how I changed my laundry routine to a more natural option ? Let me explain that my daughter has atopic skin , which sparked my interest in the products we use on a daily basis. Many had praised Marseille soap to me as an ideal choice, both for the care of textiles and for the respect of sensitive and allergy-prone skin. I then undertook an in-depth search to find a Marseille soap detergent that would suit both of us.

However, I quickly became disillusioned when I discovered that the amount of Marseille soap in commercial detergents was often limited . Worse still, my daughter's skin always reacted to the traditional detergents that I bought in supermarkets! Not to mention the white marks that appeared regularly on my black clothes, which wasn't really pleasant.

This is how I decided to explore the field of natural detergents based on Marseille soap and to experiment with various recipes...

The choice of natural detergent: a step towards a more ecological lifestyle! Detergent with white Marseille soap: my revelation I apologize in advance to fans of green Marseille soap , but I don't like either the texture or the smell of the resulting detergent (which reminds me of the horse manure !).

This is how I started looking for a recipe using white Marseille soap . And there, crush : finally, this olfactory freshness that I was looking for! And above all, my daughter tolerated this formula much better. No more reactions linked to perfumes present in industrial detergents ! What a relief !

Faced with prejudices about natural detergents with Marseille soap... I have read various mixed opinions concerning white Marseille soap, claiming in particular that it would clog washing machines . However, after 4 years of use , my washing machine is in perfect condition, thank you for it!

Admittedly, the texture of a natural detergent may surprise you at first; devoid of thickening agents , it may seem slightly viscous ... But this small detail quickly fades in front of the many advantages it offers! The benefits of this natural formula are so convincing that I quickly adopted this practice, without even worrying about the difference in texture compared to industrial detergents.

Some also fear that natural detergents with Marseille soap congeal at low temperature ... Don't panic: a simple agitation and they instantly regain their fluidity!

You could say that my transition to natural laundry marked the starting point of my ecological commitment . Thanks to this discovery, I challenged the preconceived idea that “ only industrial products are effective ”. This is how I decided to share my recipe for 100% natural laundry detergent and to develop my linen care range . There you go, now you know!

WHY DROP TRADITIONAL DETERGENTS? Let's go back to industrial detergents and the reasons for restricting their use . Most of the ingredients present in these products are not biodegradable , which leads to their accumulation in the environment, in surface waters, soils and even living organisms... A difficult problem to solve ! It is therefore essential to reduce their use as much as possible.

An instructive example: 1 g of harmful ingredient in laundry is equivalent to 3100 kg in wastewater at the end of the year !

The elements harmful to the planet and our health are multiple:

  • Surfactants : more efficient than soap, but also more polluting. Some, like LAS , are particularly harmful to aquatic life.
  • Bleaches : Two products are commonly used to bleach laundry, percarbonate (harmless) and perborate (harmful to the environment).
  • Anti-redeposition polymer : these agents prevent dirt dissolved in water from redepositing on the laundry, thus avoiding tarnishing. This is the case of CMC (carboxymethylcellulose) , less ecological than other ingredients, but less harmful.
  • Softeners and Complexing Agents : Added to soften water and boost efficiency, they sometimes contain non-biodegradable substances, such as phosphonates , polycarboxylates , and EDTA . NTA is even carcinogenic: released into water, it releases heavy metals into our food chain.
  • Solvents : toxic substances such as paradichlorobenzene , phenol or halogenated phenols .
  • Preservatives : some detergents contain formaldehyde , a known carcinogen.
  • Perfumes : many products contain musks and persistent fragrances , often not very biodegradable. This may sound worrying...
