WHY DROP TRADITIONAL DETERGENTS? Let's go back to industrial detergents and the reasons for restricting their use . Most of the ingredients present in these products are not biodegradable , which leads to their accumulation in the environment, in surface waters, soils and even living organisms... A difficult problem to solve ! It is therefore essential to reduce their use as much as possible.
An instructive example: 1 g of harmful ingredient in laundry is equivalent to 3100 kg in wastewater at the end of the year !
The elements harmful to the planet and our health are multiple:
- Surfactants : more efficient than soap, but also more polluting. Some, like LAS , are particularly harmful to aquatic life.
- Bleaches : Two products are commonly used to bleach laundry, percarbonate (harmless) and perborate (harmful to the environment).
- Anti-redeposition polymer : these agents prevent dirt dissolved in water from redepositing on the laundry, thus avoiding tarnishing. This is the case of CMC (carboxymethylcellulose) , less ecological than other ingredients, but less harmful.
- Softeners and Complexing Agents : Added to soften water and boost efficiency, they sometimes contain non-biodegradable substances, such as phosphonates , polycarboxylates , and EDTA . NTA is even carcinogenic: released into water, it releases heavy metals into our food chain.
- Solvents : toxic substances such as paradichlorobenzene , phenol or halogenated phenols .
- Preservatives : some detergents contain formaldehyde , a known carcinogen.
- Perfumes : many products contain musks and persistent fragrances , often not very biodegradable. This may sound worrying...

Preparing our natural laundry detergent is a snap Our family laundry detergent recipe comes together in just 2 minutes, and it's ready to go! Here's how:
- Heat 1 liter of water to a boil in a saucepan or with a kettle, as if you were making a cup of tea! (If the water is not hot enough, the Marseille soap may not melt properly and form lumps).
- Empty the contents of the preparation sachet into the bottle .
- Pour the water into the bottle, being careful not to overflow it.
- Close the bottle carefully. Be careful not to burn yourself!
- Shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
- Leave to cool until you get a pearly white color. There you go, your natural detergent is ready! You can perform about 15 washes with this preparation (one dose is equivalent to 6 cl).
